Ways to Give
Blue Ridge Hospice like most nonprofit hospices, relies on the generosity of community members—individuals and businesses—for support. Since 1981, we have been committed to providing our expert, compassionate end-of-life care to all regardless of ability to pay. Your contribution – regardless of size – assists us in this mission. There are many ways to give, including:
Memorial Gifts
Bequests
Sponsor an Event
Securities
Retirement Plans
Endowment Funds
Long-term Commitment

Memorial Gifts
A memorial gift t is given in memory of a loved one. In addition to personal, tax deductible gifts, many families specify “memorial gifts to Blue Ridge Hospice in lieu of flowers”. All gifts are acknowledged and family members are notified when memorial gifts are received.
Honor a family member, friend or business acquaintance by contributing a tax-deductible gift in honor of someone you know. Or, join the hundreds of other donors who send a gift to honor someone who “has everything” or to recognize a special event such as a wedding, birthday, or anniversary.
Bequests
A bequest is often the most realistic way for donors to make a significant contribution to Blue Ridge Hospice. This thoughtful method of gifting can be created as simply as adding a paragraph to a will.
If you have remembered Blue Ridge Hospice in your Will or Revocable Living Trust, or are planning to, please let us know. We would like to thank you now and invite you to join our Monarch Society.
The Butterfly Club
This is the Annual Giving Club of Blue Ridge Hospice. This club believes that "small gifts do amazing things" so if everyone gives a little the cumulative total would be substantial. Donations range from $100-$1,000 and those that donate become "members" of the club at various levels based on their donation. If you long to make a smaller charitable donation to a local not-for-profit, the Butterfly Club would be a great place to start. Donors are invited to attend and bring a friend to various events throughout the year including an Annual Social, Annual Concert, after-hours mixers, and other networking events that bring like-minded people together for the overall goal of supporting hospice services in our community. For more information regarding the Butterfly Club, please contact Jeanne Mezzatesta at 540-536-5210.
Sponsor an Event
Individuals and Corporations have the option of supporting Blue Ridge Hospice by sponsoring a fundraising event. Being a not-for-profit, our organization raises funds to support all services not reimbursed by insurance providers or Government backing. In order to provide full spectrum care, Blue Ridge Hospice needs community support in order to provide Music Therapy, Chaplain Services, as well as Grief and Loss (Bereavement) counseling. There are various events throughout the year needing funding that will give you or your business recognition for your support. Please contact our special events coordinator - Lisa Wilt - at 540-536-5210 for additional information about upcoming opportunities.
Securities
Each year, many support our efforts with gifts of stock or mutual fund shares, life insurance and/or retirement plan assets. These gifts enable donors to realize tax benefits while receiving the satisfaction of helping our community’s hospice.
You can also designate our organization as the beneficiary of your securities. Please contact Anthony Crosen, VP of Development, at 540-536-5210 for more information about this simple way to support Blue Ridge Hospice. This type of gift can be especially appealing if you are holding shares that have appreciated significantly in value but yield a low dividend.
Retirement Plans
At the time of death, qualified retirement plan assets may be subjected to both estate and deferred income tax, which combined can use up most of the funds. You can designate Blue Ridge Hospice as a tax-free beneficiary of the remainder of your IRA, tax-sheltered annuity, qualified pension or profit-sharing plan.
Endowment funds
Donors can pay lasting tribute to loved ones through gifts made in their names to Blue Ridge Hospice’s Endowment Fund. Unrestricted gifts to our endowment fund will sustain our core programs and help ensure the organization thrives and continues to serve all who need us. Cash, stock, mutual fund shares, life insurance, real estate or other property may be used to fund endowment gifts. Please contact Anthony Crosen, VP of Development at 540-536-5210.
Long-term commitment
We can help you devise and reach your personal philanthropic goals. Blue Ridge Hospice works with individuals and families to design a personalized charitable giving plan. Gifts can be made through a will, charitable trust, life insurance policy, retirement plan, estate planning or outright contribution to our endowment program.
Monarch Society
The Monarch Society is one way we honor and thank the generous donors who have made a gift for the future through estate and planned gifts to our organization. As members of the Monarch Society, these valued supporters receive regular updates on our programs and activities, and invitations to intimate donor receptions throughout the year.
Our intention is to personally recognize the individuals in our community who are helping to ensure that the compassionate end-of-life care we provide to those who are dying and their families endures well into the future. So if you are among these special philanthropists, please let us hear from you. And please be assured that while we do publicly acknowledge individuals in our Monarch Society from time to time, we will always honor a request to remain anonymous.
