Why Give?

Blue Ridge Hospice’s expert teams (including a physician, nurse, nursing assistant, social worker, chaplain and trained volunteers) collaborate to provide the very highest level of physical, emotional, social and spiritual support for those who are dying, thus enabling them to live their final days free of pain, surrounded by the people they love, in the familiar comfort of their home.


•    As the area’s only nonprofit hospice, we are focused on our patients and families, not just the bottom line.
•    We will not compromise the quality of our care and we will not turn away anyone who seeks our help.
•    We care for everyone who needs us. This means we must raise thousands of dollars every year to close the gap between insurance reimbursements and the actual cost of our care as well as to provide care to those with no insurance or means to pay at all.  Last year alone we provided $284,800 in charity care to patients and families
•    In 2010 our chaplains made 2,213 visits and music therapists 2,181 visits to patients to offer spiritual and emotional care.
•    We provide free grief and loss support to any family in the community, even if their loved one was not a patient. Last year 2,348 visits were made to assist families needing grief support and individual or family counseling.  
•    We offer free educational presentations throughout our community on all matters related to the end of life.
•    Last year 610 volunteers dedicated 37,248 hours to care for patients and their families, walk alongside those who are grieving, assist with administrative tasks, and staff the Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Shops. This amounts to about $775,000 in savings for salaries we didn’t have to pay.
•    Families tell us time and again that they couldn’t have done it without our expert, compassionate care.
